Today we are bringing you this sweet wedding for our Lovegood couple, Carolyn and Alex. These two got married at the Windsor Court and finished the night with an epic secondline in the streets of New Orleans. Below is a Q&A with our bride Carolyn! Thank you for selecting us for your special day.
Did you have something borrowed, blue, old, and new?
If so, do tell! Yes! I had my grandmother's handkerchief sewn into my dress. It had a blue B on it and we made it so it could be taken out to be put in my cousins' dresses when they get married. The bottom of my shoes were blue. My veil and dress were new!
Describe your wedding flowers.
I didn't really want a ton of flowers but loved greenery. We used greenery on the tables with pops of gold and white. My favorite "flower" was the green wall Emily (from Pick A Petal) created to go behind our Lovegood lounge.
How did y’all meet? Tell us your love story.
Alex and I met at a college party. He had graduated the year before and I had been dragged to the party by my friends. I was eating a sandwich on the sofa not wanting to talk to anyone and all of a sudden this guy in a suit approaches me and starts chatting. We haven't stopped chatting since! I went to Colorado for the summer and Alex texted me everyday. When I finally returned to New Orleans it was like we were already best friends. I think that friendship we first built is reflected in every part of our relationship.

What readings, if any, did you have at your ceremony?
We didn't have any readings but we did write our own marriage blessing that we put into the program. During the ceremony everyone read it together. It was amazing to have all of our friends and family join in the ceremony.
Tell us all about the proposal!
It was a ridiculously beautiful day in the beginning of September. Alex texted me, "It's beautiful out, let's do a picnic at The Fly instead of cooking dinner." When I came back from my workout class, Alex told me I probably would be hot in leggings ( so we could take a picture) and really wanted to bring his cooler backpack (to carry the ring in). We went to Whole Foods and Alex picked out a bottle of sparkling rose, cheese, crackers, and Chantilly cake. When we got to The Fly Alex drove all the way to end so it would just be the two of us. As the sun was setting he asked me if I would be his wife. I said "are you joking?" Then gave him the biggest kiss and we continued eating cheese.
Favorite detail of the wedding was:
Honestly our lounge space from Lovegood. I loved sitting on the sofa chatting with my friends and how special I felt sitting in the blush chair. It made our guests relax and enjoy themselves even more. Our florist created a green wall and we had a "Cheers Y'all" sign created to match the rest of geometric decor.
Tell us about some of the songs you used throughout your wedding and why you chose them.
We love to dance. Our friends love to dance and our families love to dance. It was really important to us that the band keep everyone on the dance floor all night long. I wanted songs I could belt on the dance floor with my girlfriends (Girls Just Want To Have Fun) and songs my 85 year old grandfather could dance to. When "Shout" came on I swear all 170 people fit onto the dance floor. We ended the night by singing Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. Our band didn't know it but said they would play it if we sang. Alex and I grabbed the microphone and belted out the song with our guests.
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding?
Not everything at your wedding is going to be perfect but only you will notice what's not. Figure out the few things that matter the most to you and don't stress the rest. Make sure you enjoy your wedding. If you want to be on the dance floor all night long don't let anyone stop you!
What’s next for you as a couple? What memories are you looking forward to making together?
After being in New Orleans for almost ten years we are moving to Atlanta to be closer to family. Packing has been quite the adventure. We can't wait to take out all of our wedding gifts to make our house a home.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day?
I think for all of our guests it was the Second Line down Canal Street. Almost everyone was from out of town so it was so special to share that piece of New Orleans with them. For Alex and myself I think the most memorable moment came right after the wedding ended. At the end of the night we snuck back up to the ballroom on the 23rd floor and went out on the balcony. You could see all of New Orleans and it was the first time all night (if not all weekend!) that Alex and I had been alone together. We couldn't even talk anymore but just took in the moment and all of the love that had occurred that night.
