When did y’all get married?
Describe your wedding flowers :
I worked with Antigua and she was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! We wanted bright colors that had a boho vibe and she captured this exactly
Did you have something borrowed, blue, old, and new? If so, do tell!
I did! I had on my aunt's earrings that were my borrowed and old item, I had blue underwear on haha somehow they didn't show! We counted the dress and a hair piece I wore as as something new
Tell us about some of the songs you used throughout your wedding and why you chose them.
We chose Father John Misty "Real Love" for Kaleb and his groomsmen to walk down the aisle because it captured our boho/70s feeling we were going for while keeping it modern. My dad and I walked down the aisle to "Til There Was You" by Ray Charles because we have always been OBSESSED with Ray Charles and The Beatles so this was the ultimate combo and we wanted something totally different nobody expected. Our first dance was to Patsy Cline You Belong To Me chosen by Kaleb because he is a small town country boy that was raised on this kind of music and this is one of the reasons I feel in love with him!
How did y’all meet? Tell us your love story.
We met at the University of Texas Austin at the first fraternity party I ever went to. We come from very different backgrounds he is from a small town outside of the small town of Paris, TX and I was born in LA and raised in San Fransisco. I had just joined Tri Delt sorority and it was the first event they let us attend after joining. Kaleb had just joined KA fraternity and since he was a pledge it was his job to make sure all of the guests were happy. He came up to our group and offered/brought us drinks and food and caught my eye. We kept meeting at additional parties which lead to being each others dates to our fraternity/sorority events. Eventually by Dec of that year we had been each others date what seemed like 100 times so we finally decided to make it official and have been together ever since. We met in 2009 so thought 2019 would be the perfect year to make our decade long relationship the real thing.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day-The second line was the most memorable moment because this was the first one I've ever been in and it was just as fun as they looked!!
Tell us all about the proposal!
Since we had been dating for so long it was really hard for Kaleb to find a way to surprise me without making it obvious it was coming but he somehow found a way...Background info my dad was having an art show in Austin on Sat 5/25 that a lot of family and friends were coming in town for. I am currently in nursing school and was working an overnight shift as a nurse assistant Friday so I was extremely exhausted that Sat and slept most of the morning/day so I could make it to the Art Show. Luckily by sleeping all day I missed Kaleb acting odd and planning. I made it to the Art Show which was at a cute boutique hotel in downtown austin and was able to see all my family, when Kaleb kept asking me to come upstairs to the roof to check something out. I didn't understand why he kept asking this so I kept blowing him off and it ended up taking me an hour to actually get up on the roof. Once we got up there I saw it was a gorgeous view of downtown austin with champagne and roses and I realized what was going on. It was the perfect coverup to surprise me with the engagement and I literally had NO IDEA it was coming, and the best part our entire family and friends came up from the show and we all celebrated together.
Favorite detail of the wedding was:
I was absolutely obsessed with the flower chandelier over the tables in the middle courtyard and the disco ball installation with the flowers was everything I could've ever imagined
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding?
Fight for what you want, there are so many things you will compromise make priorities of what is really important to you and DO IT! Also work on being in the moment before the wedding, it takes practice and you don't want to forgot a single moment on the big day!
What’s next for you as a couple? What memories are you looking forward to making together? I decided to go back to school last fall and quit my full time job to become a nurse and Kaleb has been in school to become a Physical Therapist since 2017, so our next step as a couple is to both graduate!! I graduate in Dec. with a BS in Nursing and Kaleb will graduate in April 2020 with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. We are planning to take a REAL honeymoon in Dec of this year bc we were only able to take a 2-day one because of school, so that is also something we are counting down the days to. After Kaleb graduates I am planning to go back to school part time to be a Nurse Practitioner and we are planning to move where ever I get into school so we have a lot of exploring and big future plans (NOLA is on the list of schools ;) )
