Tell us about your birthday celebration!
My aunt, Cydney Donnell, and I decided to throw ourselves a co-birthday party for ourselves. My aunt had a big party for her 40th, and was looking to do the same with her 60th, and our birthdays are only 7 days a part. Both of us live in Texas, and we really were unsure of how many guests would travel for a co-birthday costume party, but our friends and family really come through! We had over 75 people show up for our birthday celebration (all from out of the state)! As a speakeasy-style cocktail party, everyone dressed up, and brought there best 1920's spirit to make it one of the best nights ever.

Describe your event theme, concept and aesthetic.
The theme was really inspired by the Count's Room at Arnaud's. With it's Art Deco features, paintings and lighting - we really ran from there. When we started brainstorming ideas, we really wanted to keep the celebration jazz-era themed with a hint of speakeasy. We wanted the costumes to be a big part of what brought the party to life, and with a wide range of ages attending (3 months to 80 years old), we knew we needed a little bit of everything available for our guests. Lovegood really helped us visualize how we were going to satisfy all of our visions in one. I pictured 1920's glamour and sparkle, with a hint of underground speakeasy. With furniture like velvet wingbacks and a giant leather chesterfield, gold bar backs, an old armoire as the cake table, speakeasy style small round tables and cocktail tables, we were able to have everything we wanted! We kept the colors black, gold, green, and mauve to keep it feeling like you were back in the 1920's. We had a photobooth area with a photographer friend of mine taking portrait style photos of all of the guests! In order to give us plenty of space to sit, lounge, stand, talk, and dance, we had several lounge areas, a dancefloor, two bars, dining tables, and more available. We wanted everyone up and moving as if it were an actual 1920s bar or club, so we did dinner as heavy-passed hor d'oeuvres and New Orleans-style food stations like oysters! The florals were lots of feathers, burgundy, greenery and gold to keep the color scheme. We also had art deco style lighting around the groom as well as a gobo with our custom monogram (CC for Courtney and Cydney). The live band kept everyone dancing all night long!
Tell us all about picking your venue!
My aunt and I were in New Orleans in 2018 when we received a tour of Arnaud's while eating dinner one night. When we saw an Art Deco-inspired ballroom, The Count's Room, we knew instantly - someone we know needed to have a celebration there! With my 30th birthday and her 60th birthday coming up the following December, we took a leap and booked it for ourselves!

What was your most memorable moment about your event day?
Having all of our friends and family fly in from miles and miles away was amazing. I never would have expected such a turnout, but it was 100% the most memorable part. We had family from New York, Florida, and friends and family from all parts of Texas! It made me so happy to see everyone dressed up and so into the theme of the night.
What advice do you have for folks currently planning an event or celebration?
Trust the professionals to bring your vision to life! It's great to have a good direction for what you want, but had I not asked Lauren for her suggestions after describing the sort of theme I was looking for, I would have never had such unique and fun details at our event. Same with the florals, lights, food and drinks! These professionals do an excellent job of knowing what works and what doesn't. So don't be afraid to ask and take advice from the professionals you work with. Plus it makes for a more pain-free process if you can let go and trust others with all of the small details!

Favorite detail of the birthday celebration was:
The lounge furniture! I wanted to live in the lounge spaces that Lauren created. It was amazing to be able to sit down as the food came out or to take a break from dancing and talk to everyone. The mix of leather and velvet furniture, along with gold side and coffee tables brought my glam speakeasy to life! Lovegood also offered a few really cool touches like vintage trunks, glitter chandeliers, bar cart and vintage decanters that really made it feel like you were back in time. Details like that are the kinds of things I notice when I walk into an event, and I know for me, it made the evening amazing!
When was your event?
December 7, 2019 - my aunt's 60th birthday was December 14, and my 30th was December 20, so we settled on a neutral date for both of us!
